TruCup
TruCup is a social enterprise that aims to break the stigma against menstruation in communities around the world, while building an inclusive society for all menstruators. The Red Understanding (TRU) by TruCup is bringing them closer to their goals of systemic change by transforming and informing mindsets towards menstruation in urban and rural communities.
The TRU programme employs four pillars — gender politics, sexual health, menstruation, and menstrual solutions — to revolutionise and sensitise period management through the power of education and honest communication. Menstruators in target communities are provided with in-depth knowledge about their bodies and processes for menstrual management, as well as quality menstrual cups at subsidised cost. This enables menstruators to cultivate ownership over their bodies and menstruation process, while guarding against wastefulness through access to sustainable menstrual solutions.
At present, TruCup works extensively with different non-profit organisations across India, Singapore, and Africa to implement TRU programmes that support menstruators. These non-profit organisations include schools and education centres for underprivileged girls, urban slums, as well as institutions that build community learning and interaction among young girls. Since July 2018, TruCup has donated over 67,000 menstrual cups, saved 54,000 sanitary napkins, and educated nearly 22,000 girls in urban and rural spaces around the world.
