On Center Pottery

Center Pottery is social enterprise that conducts pottery workshops and special mental wellness classes for patients suffering from mental health and terminal illnesses, seniors, and persons with special needs.

We work with two prominent psychologists to create an art therapy curriculum so we can improve the mental health, well-being, and resilience of our participants.

How did you get started with pottery?

“Center Pottery is the fruit of my work experiences and my passion.

I started pottery at the University of Pennsylvania as part of my Japanese Studies undergraduate programme. I fell in love with pottery because I was able to use my hands to create something functional and utilitarian.

As a former national sailor for Singapore, I enjoy fixing things with my hands, so I gravitated to this artform.

I often hear people describe pottery as therapeutic so combining the two (medicine and pottery) came as a lightbulb moment for me. Pottery is a laborious process but I believe the benefits are worth the effort!”

On Teamwork

“My wish for everyone on my team is to find meaning, purpose, and joy in the work that we do.
It is hard, sweaty work but teaching and creating are very fulfilling tasks.”

As a Small Business Owner…

“I am thankful I have an awesome, dependable team. I come to work happy everyday, regardless of the challenges, because I love what I do and our work environment is great.”
